About the Builder

Richard Shea was born in Cold Spring in 1962. His family has been building and renovating homes in the Hudson Valley for over a century. He attended the State Universities at Morrisville and Fredonia, and holds a degree in Natural Resources Conservation. In 1989 he founded Shea Construction, which is dedicated to craftsmanship as it relates to the principles of sustainable building practices. He has completed the Pace Land Use Leadership Alliance Program, which concentrates on the State Environmental Quality Review Act and strategies for smart growth. He is married to Karen Tauss Shea, and has one son who attends Haldane School.
